Herbal medicine is the use of plant remedies in the treatment of disease taking all symptoms, physical & mental, into account when prescribing.
Herbal medicine works in a similar manner to allopathic medicines in the herb’s affinity for certain organ systems. Herbs have an advantage over pharmaceutical agents in that they are made from the whole plant and contain hundreds more chemical constituents that are already in balance. Very often the combinations naturally counteract many of the side effects that are found in the purified pharmaceutical drugs. Similar to the manner in which food nourishes the body, herbs can be seen to have an effect on, and nourish certain organs and organ systems, by means of detoxifying or strengthening, allowing the immune system to improve.
Herbal treatments are particularly useful in organ disease or failure situations or in cases where the body requires detoxification.
